Debbie Jonasson is a registered acupuncturist, cupping therapist and Reiki practitioner. She is a member of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) and the International Cupping Therapy Association.
Raised in the spectacular beauty of Northern Saskatchewan, she is grateful for a childhood spent roaming freely outdoors and the opportunity to just Be. To this day, she believes in the power of simplifying life as a way to gain clarity and peace.
The social problems evident in her childhood communities awakened compassion and a desire for a life of service. Though initially a veterinary technician, Debbie was always intrigued by Oriental medicine. She enrolled in the Alberta College of Acupuncture and TCM in 2008.
She knew she was in the right place when she discovered that the central philosophy of TCM is the interconnectedness between man and nature. She loves that in TCM the mind and heart are always treated with the same care and importance as the physical body. Debbie is enjoying the teachings of Jake Fratkin, Richard Tan and Susan Johnson, and thanks them for their concise teachings.
Deb has always loved to travel and was drawn to places where Spirituality was a deep part of community life. She traveled to India, Nepal, the South Pacific and Thailand. Highly intuitive, she began to practice and then to teach Reiki. She thanks Brianne Wills for her guidance and early instruction.
Debbie has made addiction and trauma recovery a focus of late. She was a volunteer member of the Calgary flood relief program. This initiative delivered hundreds of free acupuncture treatments in the aftermath of the Alberta 2013 flood. It demonstrated the value and power of acupuncture to heal traumatized communities. The experience moved her to become certified as an acupuncture detoxification specialist, and a member of NADA. The writings and work of Dr. Gabor Mate and Michael Smith are particularly inspiring in this regard.
A former distance runner and rock climber, Debbie has always been physically active . These days yoga, kayaking, and hiking fit the bill. Deb has simple tastes – Happiness is a day spent with her daughter, the laughter of friends, great food, a well written book.
A personal philosophy is that an integrated approach is the best way to achieve and maintain wellness. Debbie is excited to be part of the Vernon Active Health team and welcomes you to her practice!
